“My photography has never been a capturing of reality. My images are instead an assembly of distortions that reflect my idealised version of the streets that I wander, the endless farmland I navigate, or the woods that I wade further into than comfort permits. I keep moving until the pieces fall into place in front of me. My works are biased. They're frames of occurrences, instances of some elements that I perceive as balanced. These photos are slices of the world that I believe I can miniaturise, adjust, and ultimately imprint my affection into. This selection is an archive of that behaviour, they reflect an exercise in my ever-present hunt for feeling in the superficial”.
— Brin ArmstrongArtist Bio
Brin Armstrong is a photographer from Canberra, Australia. His work is a painterly study of ordinariness. While partly project focused, his work primarily derives its artistic meaning solely through the process of doing. An “in and of itself” approach to photography that sustains until series can be organised retroactively, like a collage. Since relocating to Melbourne, Brin has completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Photography at RMIT, a portion of which was undertaken at the Glasgow School of Art in Glasgow, Scotland. Brin has also participated in various art exhibitions and competitions such as “Socialise Flowers, 2024”, “Robyn Beech Award, 2024”, and “Pingyao Photography Festival, China, 2024”.
