“I like to paint with the hope that someone might understand an experience or feeling they haven’t been able to articulate, creating a safe, non-verbal space for people to mutually connect with an experience, theme, topic, or memory.”
— Millie HoptonArtist Bio
Originally from Kaurna Land (Adelaide) and now based in Naarm (Melbourne), Millie recently completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting) at RMIT University. Her practice is defined by its fluidity and rapid evolution, reflecting an ongoing exploration of surface, medium, texture, colour, and scale. Influenced by her surroundings, personal experiences, and social interactions, she works primarily in painting to capture the essence of mundane moments while inviting close engagement with detail and texture. Through experimentation with scale and technique, Millie seeks to evoke the emotional depth and complexity of shared experiences and human connection, creating expansive works where viewers can linger and reflect on the interplay between image and emotion.
